July 2019 was the hottest month ever recorded on Earth. Scientists say
if global warming exceeds 1.5°C before returning to that level by 2100
then ecosystems loss, ocean acidification and sea level rise will hit
the point of no return.
We have the technology to reverse climate chaos.
What we have lacked is the political will.
Yet, there
is cause for hope that global awareness of the climate emergency has
reached a tipping point. A storm surge of global action by youth
climate activists is rising.
On Monday, August 5, two leaders of the youth climate movement, Jerome
Foster and Alexandria Villa-Señor, joined world renowned climate
scientist Michael Mann and local clean energy advocate Gordian Raacke
for a public forum.
Titled The Youth Climate Movement Could Save the
Planet, the forum was put on by the Hamptons Institute at Guild Hall in
East Hampton, NY. Sustainable East End was there to record the event.
